Sports and meditation. While bodies move into action, thoughts drown in oceans of concentration. According to Marie Docher, indoor sport is everything but an exhibition, it is an exercise in internalisation. Her vibrant images capture the waves propagated by bodies that are shaped by determination. The density of colour is nourished by the intensity of effort, and clarity springs out of her blurred views. Bodies and minds merge to prove that they belong to humanity. In this communal gymnasium, men and women are not only urged to pedal on bicycles and lift weights until they are out of breath, they are also invited to commune.
