Laurent Hamels has recorded all the darkness of our world, its evils, its daily horrors, and the terrors lurking on our doorstep, to which we turn a blind eye. Alcoholism, harassment, rape, hold-ups, suicide, terrorism. He looks sordidness straight in the eye and refuses to back down. Violence hits, pounds, leaps to the eye, and depression sets in. Fiction? Reality? These photos resemble a report. We are hooked, shocked but also woken up. It's difficult to avert one's eyes.
